CLIFF GARBUTT
Brief Bio
Cliff Garbutt has more than thirty years of experience in the animation industry and has won two Emmy Awards as well as a Broadcast Designer’s award. He has held the following positions: Director, Animation Director, Artistic Director, Lead Story Developer, Lead Animator, Technical Director, Special Effects Director, Lead Modeler. He has also done extensive storyboarding, design and animation for major US Television Networks such as NBC, CBS, and ESPN as well as Advertising Agencies McCann Erickson NY, and BBDO, as well as 3D character animation, direction and supervision for television series and feature film. Cliff has directed and supervised large scale animation productions involving up to 40 or more animators and professionals, for clients such as Inlight Entertainment (for Disney Interactive), Motion Works Group, Nelvana and Nokia.Cliff has a ‘pre-digital’ background of four years working with traditional animation, cel, drawing and ‘claymation’, and has been trusted to direct the animation of some of Disney’s premier ‘flagship’ characters: Snow White & Cinderella, as well as the gang from ‘Winnie the Pooh’ and Pixar’s Buzz Lightyear along with characters from ‘Toy Story’ on 6 video game projects produced by Inlight Entertainment for Disney Interactive.
More recently, Cliff teamed up with Chinese company; Wuhan Digital Media, to develop and produce the full length feature movie; ‘7 Celsius’; a hilarious film about the life and death struggles of intelligent life that has developed within a filthy refrigerator, which he wrote and is currently directing. The trailer has recently been completed and is available for viewing.
Cliff and his Team at Wuhan Digital Media are also currently involved in producing outsource series animation for So! Animation, NY. They have so far animated 3 episodic films called ‘I Want Your Money’ and are currently wrapping up 2 episodes of a 9 episode toon-style series for the same client. They have also produced some grizzly ‘horror’ style creature animation and gore effects for the US ‘cult-horror’ film “ Trippin’” Directed By Devi Snively – which has received great reviews and is currently touring the festival circuits, and are currently in production with 2 series; Pig Bodi, and Baza Baza.
